Description
MOTS-c – Pre-filled Laboratory Cartridge for In Vitro Research (25 mg / 3 ml)
Mitochondrially encoded 16-amino acid bioactive peptide (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA Type-c) in a pre-formulated stabilized buffered solution for in vitro research on AMPK pathway activation, folate-methionine cycle regulation, GLUT4 translocation, and mitochondrial metabolic plasticity
Overview & Mechanism of Action (In Vitro)
MOTS-c is a unique 16-amino acid peptide encoded by mitochondrial DNA (within the 12S rRNA locus) that acts as an endocrine mitochondrial signaling factor (mitokine). In cell biology, molecular metabolism, and cellular senescence research, it serves as a primary reference standard for investigating retrograde mitochondrial-to-nuclear communication and cellular bioenergetics:
- Direct Activation of the AMPK Signaling Cascade: Enhances AMP-activated protein kinase () phosphorylation across cellular models by promoting the accumulation of AICAR (an intermediate of de novo purine synthesis), mimicking states of cellular energy depletion in vitro.
- Inhibition of the Folate-Methionine Cycle & Purine Metabolism: Modulates one-carbon folate metabolism via targeted inhibition of de novo purine biosynthesis enzymes, prompting a metabolic switch toward lipid oxidation and cellular homeostasis.
- Support of GLUT4 Translocation & Glucose Utilization: In primary myoblast and skeletal muscle cell cultures, it stimulates the translocation of glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) to the cell surface membrane independently of classical insulin cascades.
- Enhancement of Mitochondrial Biogenesis & Respiration: Upregulates PGC-1$\alpha$ expression and nuclear-encoded mitochondrial respiratory factors, increasing oxidative phosphorylation capacity and suppressing reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation under metabolic stress in vitro.
- Pre-formulated Format for Precise Laboratory Dispensing: The stabilized liquid matrix within a 3 ml cartridge eliminates manual reconstitution steps, ensuring exceptional homogeneity and concentration consistency for automated micro-dispensing systems.
