Description

Semax

Synthetic heptapeptide for in vitro research on neurotrophic and neuromodulatory signaling pathways

Overview & Mechanism of Action (In Vitro)

Semax is a synthetic regulatory peptide composed of 7 amino acids (sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro), derived from the structural fragment ACTH(4–10) with a C-terminal stabilizing Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide sequence. In biochemical and neurobiological research, it is utilized to model cellular pathways devoid of hormonal activity associated with full-length ACTH:

  • Modulation of Neurotrophic Factors: Evaluating regulatory effects on BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) and its high-affinity receptor TrkB expression in hippocampal cell lines.
  • Neurochemical Signaling: Investigating interactions with dopaminergic and serotonergic signaling cascades and analyzing the enzymatic degradation profiles of endogenous regulatory peptides.
  • Cellular Protection & Antioxidant Pathways: Analysis of gene expression profiles involved in immune response pathways and investigation of interactions with copper ions (Cu2+) in amyloid aggregation models.

Due to the C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro motif, the compound exhibits marked enzymatic resistance against tissue peptidases in experimental setups compared to native ACTH(4–10).
